About the Ju88A-6
One of the most versatile designs of WWII, the Ju88 was a twin-engine multi-role aircraft flown by the Luftwaffe. A total of approximately 15,000 of this vital aircraft were manufactured. One of the more novel versions was the Ju88A-6, which was basically a Ju88A-5 fitted with a balloon cutting device. It was intended to clear the way for a bomber force by cutting the tether cables of barrage balloons. The specific equipment involved a front-mounted fender terminating at the wingtips, with a cable-cutting device installed at each end. The apparatus weighed a total of 380kg, requiring a further 60kg counterweight to be fitted in the tail.
